2021/2022

While working on a project, I encountered a common challenge: I needed an icon that wasn't available in the icon pack I was using. The pack also didn't feature the necessary documentation to create more icons with the same style. So, I made my own set of icons, which was enjoyable and fulfilling.

Roadmap

My role

I aim to document my journey, sharing the techniques I used and the design principles I established while creating over 2,000 icons.

Design approach

I began by exploring concepts significantly influencing fundamental properties like stroke width and corner radius. This exploration allowed me to define the icons' essential visual characteristics.

Next up is the icon grid, followed by keylines, which played a crucial role in unifying the icons and regulating their placement within the established grid.

Guided by the keyline as a guideline, I carefully positioned and aligned the basic shapes on the icon grid. Using Boolean operations, such as union, subtraction, intersection, or exclusion, I combined and manipulated these shapes to create more complex and intricate forms.

Throughout this process, I developed, documented and adhered to the established design principles, encompassing consistency in stroke width, corner radius, and overall visual style.

In the concluding phase of the design process, I explored additional styles, including different weights and tones, to enhance the visual impact of the icons. Concurrently, I rigorously tested and refined the principles and properties of the newly developed icons.

Fundamentals

The concept

The Sexyicons concept revolves around creating visually captivating icons characterized by their boldness, curves, and appeal. I aimed to capture attention and make a powerful visual impact using larger icons.
